Week 5 preview: Northwest at Louisville

SITE  Louisville Stadium, 7 p.m.
RECORDS  Northwest 2-2, 0-1; Louisville 4-0, 1-0
LAST WEEK  Marlington 17, Northwest 7; Louisville 17, Canton South 14
LAST MEETING  Louisville won, 33-7, last year.
WHAT TO WATCH  Northwest’s last visit to Louisville in 2007 marked the last time the Leopards lost a regular season game. Louisville has reeled off 20 straight regular season wins since. The Leopards had to rally from a 14-0 deficit at Canton South to keep that streak intact. QB Bob Swigert and WR Joe Stoffer connected on the game-tying touchdown and 2-point conversion in the fourth quarter. Jaron Lohmeyer’s 38-yard field goal with 5.9 seconds left won it. Swigert has thrown for 760 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Stoffer has 26 catches for 266 yards and three TDs. The Indians’ new five-receiver spread offense has struggled the past few weeks. Northwest rolled up 68 points in season-opening wins over Orrville and Firestone but has produced just 17 in losses to Field and Marlington. QB Bryan Jones is 115 yards shy of 1,000 for the season. He has thrown nine touchdown passes. Joey Demaree and Tim May have three TD catches apiece.

CANTON TWP.—Louisville quarterback Bobby Swigert, with a badly swollen ankle, was questionable. That meant the Leopards offense was a question mark for Friday’s NBC opener at Canton South.

There will be no questioning the heart of Louisville — or the Wildcats — after the Leopards’ 17-14 last-second victory at Clyde Brechbuhler Stadium.

Defense carries the day for Louisville

LOUISVILLE  It’s the ultimate nightmare of any Louisville High School football fan.

Bob Swigert, the boy wonder of Louisville, limping and unable to display the wide array of skills that make the Leopards go.

“It’s gut-check time,” head coach Paul Farrah described. “Everyone’s looking around, wondering who’s going to make the big play. Our defense said they were going to.”

With a hobbled Swigert limited in what he could do at quarterback, the Leopards rode another tremendous effort by their defense and took advantage of several Hoban penalties to pull out a 12-3 win Friday night at Louisville Stadium.
